UFT Teacher Center’s 45th anniversary celebration

Some 350 UFT Teacher Center site coaches, field liaisons and directors past and present — from long-retired employees to current staff — gathered at the TWA Hotel in Queens on April 27 to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the program.

UFT President Michael Mulgrew didn’t mince words about the current threats to public schools and public school communities at the union's 2025 Spring Education Conference. He asked the more than 1,600 members who packed the New York Hilton Midtown to steel themselves for the battles to come, promising victory in solidarity.

Workshops with a NY state of mind

Educators could earn CTLE credit by attending any of five professional development workshops offered by the UFT Teacher Center at this year's Spring Education Conference. 
This year’s New York City theme allowed Teacher Center instructors to infuse the workshops with local culture and history.

Early Childhood Conference

More than 300 educators crowded Shanker Hall at union headquarters on April 5 for the 17th annual Early Childhood Conference. Teachers and paraprofessionals in grades 3-K though 2 enjoyed a day of inspiration, camaraderie and professional development with an emphasis on how important a strong start is to a child’s educational achievement.

Creating a safe Nest for students

School counselors focused on the work of helping children, even in challenging times, during the union's 21st annual School Counselors Conference on March 22. “Our students need us,” said School Counselors Chapter Leader Rosemarie Thompson.

VNS Health nurses OK contract

Federation of Nurses/UFT members who are licensed practical nurses with VNS Health overwhelmingly ratified a contract on Jan. 27 that provides a 7.5% increase in base pay over two years while establishing the employer’s contractual obligation to consider factors like parking availability, travel time and level of patient need when scheduling daily caseloads.
